Kyoto Gyoen National Garden

Historic structures, gardens, and festivals offer a glimpse into ancient life and culture

Around 700 years ago in 1331, a temporary imperial palace on the site that is now Kyoto Gyoen became the permanent Imperial Palace. Indeed, it is not an exaggeration to say that Japanese history revolves around Kyoto Gyoen, which flourished as a court nobles’ residential area. Visitors are invited to immerse themselves in the history and culture developed by the people of ancient times.
